The porch is swept, the coffee is strong, and I’ve got that sweet hum of accomplishment vibrating in my bones.
I’ve spent the whole afternoon gettin' the house ready for the heat, and now I’m just sittin' back with my mug, watchin' the shadows stretch across the yard. It won’t be long now before we’re loadin' the tubes into the back of the Jeep and headin' down to the Colorado River with my sweet girl dog and the kiddos, and a few friends There’s nothin' quite like that first cold plunge into the water when the Texas sun starts to bake.
I’m already picturin' the summer nights ahead, the smell of hickory smoke driftin' off the grill and a big ol' rack of ribs waitin' to be shared. That’s the legacy I want to leave behind, a home where the bellies are always full and the hearts are even fuller. By the time the first fireflies start dancin' in the dusk, we’ll be leaned back in our chairs, tired and happy, just soakin' up the peace of being together under these big stars.
