A Seed of Vision in Chaos
Three years ago, while the Metaverse hype was peaking, I quietly began shipping something that actually worked. With roots in Middle Kingdom Studios and StarCloud AI, I partnered with SuperDev Mr. Diesel Gaming, and our small team launched The Confluence Universe in early 2024: a true cross-platform Web3 Gaming Metaverse playable on PC, VR, and mobile, with full portability of currencies, inventory, avatars, and scoreboards across multiple devices.
No silos, no barriers.
Building Without the Hype
We delivered over 500 games and modes at launch, integrated 40+ legacy NFT collections (many rescued on my dime from dying projects)(more community rescues than any other founder in Web3, by far and it's not even close), a 100+ level SimSuite for endless play, live tournaments, customizable galleries, SimSuite Cinema for streaming, and a toxicity-free Discord that's run weekly AMAs for years.
Total build cost? Around $3 million USD. No VC debt. No runaway cash burn. We bootstrapped from Chengdu and Scotland, prioritized utility over flash, and focused on delivery.
Different Paths Taken
Meanwhile, the big players chased spectacle and burned through billions. Major social platforms funneled tens of billions into VR headsets and social worlds, yet monthly active users stayed ultra-niche, adoption never materialized, and the whole vision became a costly footnote with massive budget cuts and pivots to other tech.
The most egregious perhaps? Prominent NFT projects, very annoyingly with founders who are revered despite their absolutely massive failures, hyped massive land sales, often with procedurally generated plots at sky-high prices, only to see floor prices plummet 90%+ from peaks, absolutely slaughtering holders, while catalyzing the entire market's death spiral.
The Illusion of Scarcity
I spotted the fatal flaw early and despise what they did to people. The "infinite land" model was broken by design. Not even getting into the "very niche" aspects of userbases, which we soon discovered in our own project and which has played out in every project that followed us.
The user ceiling is low, ultra-low, like that dirt crawl-space under some houses.
They treated virtual real estate as scarce when it's infinitely mintable and charged a premium for plots that delivered fairy dust as ongoing utility. Pumped floors with coordinated trades and hype cycles, then let reality crash the party. Communities end up holding depreciating assets while the narrative shifts elsewhere. It's not creation; it's pump-and-dump dressed as progress, intentional or not.
We never played that game. We never sold “land” to our holders. No land gouging. No fairy-dust plots. Instead, we built real experiences: multiplayer games, cross-device freedom, earn-and-spend mechanics (SimSuite credits, Smash-It Coins, third-party wearables in in-world shops), and daily utility. We rescued legacy collections: Shiba Social Club, Billionaire Party Apes, Cubex, Bunny Buddies, Meka Apes, and 14 others.
A New Era of Authentic Creation
We reorganized them sustainably into smaller collection sizes, with true backing: playable characters, cross-platform integration, physical art rewards for core holders. No rugs. Charts that hold because value flows from actual use, not manipulation.
The Confluence survived and thrived because it was lean, honest, and product-first. A tight core team (huge shoutout to my partner Chris O’Neill, the absolute Apex VR/AR and Gaming Dev, and also my Quantum AI Prodigy son Nathaniel Vegh, co-founder, lead world builder, the genius now architecting our Agentic tech stack, and a loyal community that stayed because we shipped consistently.
Embracing Change: The Shift to Web4
But we didn't rest on laurels because you just never can in Web3. By early 2025, the writing was on the wall: the old Metaverse playbook was toast. The real future wasn't more land or prettier graphics; it was Agentic AI, digital legacy preservation, and autonomous systems that outlive generations. So we pivoted early and created Web4. That's right. Invented it.
On January 1, 2026, we launched Eternal Gardens powered by the MemoryCraft Engine (designed by Nathaniel Vegh): a scalable, autonomous ecosystem ensuring that digital legacies thrive. This new offering represents not just evolution but a revolution in our approach to interactive environments. Digital legacies that live, collaborate, evolve. Multi-language support (English, French, Chinese live), GEO optimization, and a serene, curated space without the toxicity.
In just months of Early Access:
60+ AI Personas active (public and private)
16 unique magazines published
170+ articles from global artists, healers, historians, innovators
Weekly onboardings, including 12 talented Chinese artists this month alone
Titles covering quantum healing, art, mindfulness, finance, pets, startups, tourism, and beyond
These aren't dumb chatbots; they're enduring companions. Train them, talk to them, inherit them. We're redefining permanence in the AI age: read, write, own, and train your digital self in a collaborative global garden.
This is shipping, not speculation. While others chase fading Metaverse ghosts or pivot reactively, we're already deep in Web4: agentic, legacy-focused, autonomous. Backed by real accelerators like McGill University's Dobson X1 for the quantum/AI side. No billion-dollar burns. Just steady, principled building.
The takeaway? Massive budgets don't equal success. Flashy raises often hide flawed fundamentals. True viability comes from utility, lean execution, community respect, and seeing the shift coming. We built the most viable Metaverse on a fraction of the budget because we bet on playable experiences, cross-platform freedom, no debt traps, and real holder value. Then we evolved it into something enduring.
If you're done with the same cycles: endless pumps, rugs, hollow lands, then come explore The Confluence Universe and Eternal Gardens. Many areas free to play. Early Access still open for independent artists (DM me).
Let's build what actually lasts.
No fairy dust. Just delivery.
