115x85x5cm Mixed media on canvas. This large-scale original artwork is a striking visual soul story of the rare and potent Chinese Lunar Year of the Fire Horse 2026.
This piece was created during the first months of 2026 blending a variety of mixed media, and Jacqueline Austin's technical expertise in acrylic, inks, impasto, vintage collage, and gold leaf in the contemporary style of Magical Realism.
The central Fire Horse locks eyes with the viewer - the surrounding cosmic fiery energy balanced by its bold loving gaze. Nestled against its flank is a native woman, representing the Higher Self, in a state of complete trust and surrender. Emerging directly from her heart space is a butterfly, a universal symbol of soul evolution and rebirth. She embraces her soul's calling; she integrates it, allowing her spirit animal to guide her.
To anchor the cosmic energy into the earth, we've included a collage of the native Australian Kangaroo Paw. Carrying the fire spirit of the landscape within its roots, this plant relies on the scorching heat of a bushfire to crack open its dormancy and regenerate. It is a reminder that true renewal can only come from within.
At the base of the canvas sits a guiding truth: “Be willing to do what your soul wants to do if you want to create what you are asking for.” To manifest the magic we ask the Universe for, we must have the courage to follow the soul's unfiltered directives - even when they call us to walk straight into the flames. Soul Calling of The Fire Horse is the seminal piece in Austin's visionary art Fire Horse series born from an ongoing exploration of spiritual consciousness - the living intelligence that moves through spirit, colour, symbol, and the unseen dimensions of creation. To mark the 60 year return of this rare astrological lunar year, the artwork includes 60 year old vintage collage comprising of sheet music verse, and select pages from a mid-century thesaurus with keynote words that attempt to describe transformation and the Universe.

This overarching project brings together six original artworks that trace the Fire Horse’s mythic arc - from its initial awakening, to dynamic movement, to ultimate transformation and rebirth. Each piece operates as a spiritual transmission, deeply influenced by Wassily Kandinsky’s philosophy that true art is an internal necessity and a spiritual force capable of actively shifting the viewer’s state of being.
Honouring Gustav Klimt’s belief that "Art is the bridge between the soul and the world," this artwork purposefully weaves a tapestry of cross-cultural themes directly into the paint. The composition seamlessly bridges the celestial energy of the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse with the grounded resilience of native Australian Kangaroo Paw flora and geometric markings reminiscent of North American wild horses.
