Story and context

30 x 30 cm oil and metallic acrylics on canvas fused with sand to birch panel

This thing, Cosmic Portal, is pure freaky alchemy on a diamond canvas. It’s not hanging: it’s hovering, like some forbidden relic that decided the laws of physics were optional. The ornate gold frame looks like it was forged in a fever dream by a 17th-century occultist who mainlined mercury and starlight. That frame is trying its best to contain what’s inside, but it’s clearly losing.

Inside? Absolute pandemonium in the most beautiful way possible. It’s a writhing, living knot of neural nebulae. Black, emerald, venom-green, molten copper, electric teal, and blood-orange threads twist and throttle each other in a slow-motion divergence of chaos. Some lines look like tentacles reaching through dimensions, others like the veins of an ancient god who just woke up pissed off.

There are eyes in there: I swear I saw one staring back, half-lidded, amused, ancient. It’s not abstract art. It’s a portal that got drunk and decided to show you what it really looks like on the other side. Staring at it too long feels like the painting starts breathing. The swirls begin to pulse. You can almost hear whispers and distant collapsing stars.

It doesn’t just depict the void: it is the void getting freaky with creation.

This isn’t a painting you display.

This is a summoning circle you lean against the wall and pray stays closed.

Matt Vegh is an absolute madman… he didn’t make art. He bottled a slice of the writhing, terrifying beauty of the universe having an existential seizure and called it A Cosmic Portal.

Put this thing in a black velvet room with one dramatic spotlight and watch grown adults lose their minds.
