The story of the card
A young page stands against amber dunes in a tunic of flame-orange glass patterned with salamanders, the creatures once believed to live unharmed in fire. He holds a budding staff upright and studies its tip as if it were a message he has just received. Around his feet blooms a ring of spring crocuses, the Victorian flower of youthful gladness, among the first to open while the ground is still cold. The desert behind him is open and untested; no path has been worn yet. His stance is light and his attention absolute. The picture asks you to look at your own new interest with that same wonder, and to let curiosity lead the first steps.

Upright
The Page of Wands is fire at the stage of discovery. As the Earth of Fire, it grounds enthusiasm in a single, tangible experiment, the first sketch, class, trip or conversation that turns interest into experience. Waite called this figure an envoy or messenger, and the card can bring news, an invitation or an idea that arrives with a jolt of excitement. At work it describes a beginner’s energy: learning a new skill, exploring a field, pitching something bold with more passion than polish. In love it may show a flirtatious, playful phase, or someone who brings lightness into your life. Inwardly it is the return of curiosity, the part of you that wants to try things simply to see what happens. Its gift is freshness, the willingness to be new at something. Its shadow, when overdone, is a chain of shiny starts with little follow-through. The card asks you to treat your spark as play, pick one experiment and see where it leads.
Reversed
Reversed, the Page of Wands shows enthusiasm that is scattered, stalled or kept private. You may have plenty of ideas and find it hard to choose one, or you may be waiting until you feel qualified before you begin. Sometimes the energy runs too hot: impatience, dramatic promises, several projects started at once and each abandoned after a week. Sometimes it has turned inward, a secret passion you have not dared to show because you fear looking foolish as a beginner. At work this can look like procrastination on a project you care about, or immature plans presented too early. In love it may point to mixed signals, or excitement that fades as soon as effort is needed. Waite links the reversal to announcements and unsettling news, which in practice often means an idea that needs a second look. The way through is to shrink the commitment: choose one small experiment, give it a week, and let curiosity rebuild momentum.
