Story and context
My first product. Osmanthus at the top, a sharp metallic middle like the air after a storm, a warm base. A cobalt-blue faceted bottle with gold accents that weighs too much.
Eleven test batches. The early ones smelled like sugary milk tea and I nearly gave up. The idea was late October in Chengdu, when the street trees bloom, without it turning into candy. The bottle is too heavy for a handbag and I refused to change it.
It was paid for with advances from my music and a small loan I cleared in a year. Nobody else's money.
