I have always been a night owl. Up way past midnight and sleep most of the morning. I love the night environment, the way it feels so different from day. The night has a stillness that the day just can't match. Growing up in the Southwest, I always felt the world finally breathed a sigh of relief once the sun went down and the air cooled. Those desert nights were so quiet, you could almost hear the stars. Now, when I’m traveling, I still find myself drawn to that evening energy.
I'm standing on the banks of Seine River in Paris. It is night and a bit chilly due to the light drizzle of rain. I'm wearing my raincoat with my hood up looking at the beautiful scene of the river. The cobblestones are shining black and the water is dark, but the colorful lights reflecting off of the bridge, streetlamps and the slow passing boats make the scene surreal. I look up in time to see the iconic Eiffel Tower turn to gold. An awesome night.
