Six of Pentacles

In the Garden card a merchant in ruby glass holds gilded scales in one hand and lets coins fall from the other into the open palms of two kneeling figures. Wild grapevines, heavy with violet fruit, frame the scene, and six pentacles glow in the air around them. Greenaway gave the wild grape the meaning of charity. A seasoned reader would draw your eye to the scales first: this generosity is weighed, deliberate and fair. Then notice the three positions, one giver and two receivers, and ask where you stand today. The picture asks how resources, help and care are flowing in your life, and whether that flow is balanced.

Upright

The Six of Pentacles is the Lord of Material Success, the Moon in Taurus: nourishment and security moving in a steady rhythm between people. It follows the hardship of the Five with an answer to it, the moment when help is given, received and kept in proportion. In real life this can look like mentoring or being mentored, sharing knowledge, offering time, making a fair agreement, or accepting support without losing your dignity. In love it describes reciprocity: two people who both give and both receive. In your inner life it asks you to notice your relationship with generosity, including generosity toward yourself. Its gift is fairness joined to warmth. Its shadow, when overdone, is giving that quietly creates dependence or hierarchy, or receiving that slides into feeling indebted.
