The Moon

intuitiondreamsuncertainty

The Moon asks you to move gently through uncertainty. Not everything is clear yet, and that is all right. Trust your intuition and give yourself time for the path ahead to reveal itself.

Love Feelings may be complex or unspoken. Honest conversations bring clarity.

Evening primrose · Inconstancy (Greenaway, 1884)
The story of the card

In the Garden deck a full moon with a serene face glows between two towers, its light falling as drops of dew over a winding path. Below, a dog and a wolf lift their heads to the sky, the tame and wild sides of the same instinct. From a pool in the foreground a crayfish crawls onto the bank, the way deep feelings and half-formed thoughts rise from the unconscious. The path runs between the towers toward distant mountains, visible yet uncertain. Evening primroses, which open only at dusk, line its edges; Greenaway called them inconstancy. The picture asks you to keep walking by moonlight, trusting what you sense before you can prove it.

The full reading

Upright

The Moon is the card of intuition, dreams and the in-between. Linked with Pisces and the element of Water, it describes a stretch of life where the facts are incomplete and the light is soft and shifting. Things may not be what they first seem, including your own fears, which often loom larger at night. In work, it can point to ambiguity: plans still forming, information still arriving, a creative process that cannot be rushed. In love, feelings may be deep, complex or unspoken, and imagination can fill the gaps with hope or worry. In the inner life, the Moon brings vivid dreams, strong intuitions and old emotions rising to the surface to be understood. Its gift is access to the imaginative, intuitive self that daylight logic overlooks. Overdone, Moon energy can tip into anxious projection, escapism or confusion between intuition and fear. The card asks you to move slowly, notice what is real, honour your inner signals, and let clarity arrive at its own pace.

Reversed

Reversed, the Moon often shows the fog beginning to lift. A confusion eases, a misunderstanding comes to light, or a fear that seemed enormous turns out to be smaller in daylight. This can be a relief, and it can also be unsettling, since clarity sometimes reveals what you would have preferred to leave vague. At other times the reversal points to the Moon's energy turned inward and knotted: overthinking, restless sleep, worries repeating in circles, or intuition you have stopped listening to because it was inconvenient. In work, check assumptions and ask the direct question you have been avoiding. In love, a frank and gentle conversation may clear an uncertainty that has grown in silence. The way through is to separate what you know from what you fear. Write the worries down, test each against the evidence, and keep the intuitions that remain steady. Ground yourself in simple routines, and give your inner life a calm, creative outlet.
