Love You may be considering where a relationship could go next, or what you want from love in the longer term.

Holly · Greenaway 1884: "Foresight."
The story of the card

On a gilded battlement a lord stands between two staffs, one fixed to the wall and one in his hand. In his other palm rests a small globe of sea-blue and green glass, the whole world reduced to something he can turn and study. Glossy holly frames him, the Victorian flower of foresight, and its red berries remind you that a first harvest is already in. The cross of roses and lilies in the stonework joins desire with clean intention. Behind him lies secure ground; in front, open land and sea. He has not yet left. The picture asks which staff you will take up: the one that guards what you have, or the one that travels.

The full reading

Upright

The Two of Wands follows the Ace’s spark with a question of direction. You have some security, a base, a skill, a modest success, and the horizon is starting to feel too small. This card describes the planning stage of ambition: studying the map, weighing two paths, imagining a life or a venture on a bigger scale. At work it often appears when you are considering expansion, a move, further study or a bold proposal. In love it can show a relationship deciding what future it wants, or someone asking whether their current bond has room to grow. Inwardly it is the moment you admit that you want more. Mars in Aries gives it drive and a streak of impatience. Its gift is vision joined with personal authority. Its shadow, when overdone, is endless planning from the safety of the wall, or a restlessness that dismisses what you already have. The card asks you to decide which horizon you are aiming for and to map its first real stage.

Reversed

Reversed, the Two of Wands shows a vision held too tightly to leave the battlement. You may know that you want change and still keep circling the same decision, because the familiar feels safer than the unknown. Sometimes the energy turns inward as private dreaming, rich in detail and never tested. Sometimes it runs the other way: impatience pushes you to leap before you have a plan, and the leap unsettles more than it opens. At work this can look like a stalled expansion or an opportunity declined out of caution. In relationships, a conversation about the future keeps being postponed. The reversal holds up a mirror to your fear of losing what you have built. The way through is to make the unknown smaller. Gather one piece of real information, speak with someone who has taken the path, or test the idea on a modest scale, and let evidence replace imagined risk.

In a reading
In the past
A period of planning and a first taste of success gave you the secure base from which you are now looking outward.Reversed An earlier chance to expand was set aside out of caution, and that unmade decision still colours your sense of what is possible.
In the present
You stand at a planning threshold, weighing two directions, with enough security behind you to choose the bolder one.Reversed A decision keeps circling without landing, as comfort and fear of the unknown quietly outvote your wish to grow.
Looking ahead
A clearer plan and a wider horizon are likely to take shape, with a choice about direction becoming ready to make.Reversed Plans may stay on the drawing board longer than hoped unless you gather the information that would make the choice feel safer.
As advice
Name the horizon you truly want, then map the first practical stage of reaching it before the energy cools.Reversed Shrink the unknown by testing your plan on a small scale or talking with someone who has already walked that road.
As a challenge
Planning can become a comfortable substitute for moving, and the view from the wall may feel like progress when it is only a view.Reversed Fear of losing your present security is keeping you from a choice that part of you has already made.
As the direction
If you commit to a direction, this situation is likely to open into a wider venture shaped by your own design.Reversed If nothing changes, you may remain safe and restless on the battlement, watching a horizon you never set out toward.
As you
You meet this with a strategist’s eye, confident in what you have built and curious about how far it can reach.Reversed You are torn between longing and caution, and you may be waiting for certainty before allowing yourself to want more.
As the people around you
A mentor, partner or ally with a wide vision may help you see possibilities beyond your usual boundaries.Reversed People around you may urge caution or may themselves be restless, which makes your own decision harder to hear clearly.
As a person, a feeling, an action
As a person
A planner with ambition, the person who studies maps, markets and options before making a bold move. Often someone established who is ready for a larger stage.
As a feeling
The restless excitement of looking beyond what you already know and wanting to go.

Waite gives two opposing readings: "riches, fortune, magnificence" alongside a darker note of trouble, and calls the figure a lord overlooking his dominion. Reversed: "surprise, wonder, enchantment, emotion".
